Spencer County School District posted an urgent notice early Wednesday morning indicating that a number of bus routes would be altered because several drivers were out sick or unable to report for work. The district asked families to be prepared for possible delays and to ensure their children are visible and ready at the designated stops.
High school and middle school adjustments
Route 11: Students on this route will need to meet Route 10 at either Old Ashes Creek/Ashes Creek or the firehouse off Highway 1066 at approximately 6:30 a.m. Parents who cannot get their child to one of these meeting locations are instructed to contact the district directly.
Highview Estates HS/MS: All students will be picked up by Route 8 this morning.
Route 3: This route will not run on its normal schedule. Students will be transported via temporary route adjustments made by the district.
Elementary route changes
Route 11: Elementary students normally on this route will be picked up by Route 23. Families should watch for the bus about ten minutes earlier than usual.
Little Stars Daycare: Students will be served by Route 14.
Training Wheels Daycare: SCES and preschool students will be picked up by Route 14.
TES students: These students will be served by Route 27.
Safe Harbor: Students will be picked up by Route 26.
TES Shuttles: Route 26 will also cover TES shuttle students from SCES, SCMS, and SCHS.
What parents should do
The district emphasized that parents should have their children ready at the new meeting points a few minutes before the scheduled pickup time. If a child cannot be at the assigned location, parents are urged to call the district’s transportation office promptly so alternative arrangements can be made.
Officials also reminded families that delays are possible as drivers and routes are being re‑assigned on short notice. They asked for patience and cooperation while the district works to keep students safely on schedule.
Looking ahead
The school district said it will continue to monitor driver availability and will provide updates throughout the day if additional changes become necessary. Parents are encouraged to check the district’s website or social media channels for the latest information.
These temporary adjustments are intended to ensure that all students reach school safely despite the staffing challenges. The district thanked families for their understanding and flexibility during this unexpected situation.
