Montgomery officials announced a change to the city’s annual Veterans Day celebration, moving the event from downtown to the Montgomery VA Hospital on Veterans Way, just off Chantilly Parkway near The Home Depot. The shift, reported by WAKA, aims to provide a more accessible venue for veterans and their families.
The celebration will now take place on Saturday, November 14, rather than on the federal holiday of November 11. The day‑long program begins with the Veterans Day Parade at 10 a.m., followed by a Veterans Resource Fair and a ceremonial tribute to those who have served in the Armed Forces.
The parade is set to feature a mix of veterans, active‑duty service members, military units, marching bands, schools, community organizations, and local leaders. Organizers say the lineup will showcase a patriotic display of appreciation and pride for the men and women who have defended the nation.
In addition to the parade, the Veterans Resource Fair will offer information and services to veterans and their families, while the ceremonial tribute will honor the contributions of Montgomery’s military community. The event is intended to bring together residents, veterans, military families, organizations, and businesses in a shared expression of gratitude.
Mayor Steven Reed emphasized the importance of the gathering, stating, “Veterans Day is a time for our community to come together in gratitude and appreciation for the men and women who have defended our nation.” He invited all Montgomery residents to participate in what he described as a “meaningful celebration.”
Organizations wishing to join the parade must register by November 9, 2026, through the city’s website at https://www.montgomeryal.gov/veterans. For parade‑related questions, the Department of Cultural Affairs can be reached at [email protected].
Montgomery residents can look forward to the event on Nov. 14, with the registration deadline approaching next week. City officials encourage veterans, families, and community groups to sign up early and attend the celebration to honor those who have served.
