McKinney – The ManeGait nonprofit announced a historic fundraising result at its 19th annual gala on Oct. 17, pulling in $1.34 million from more than 950 donors. The windfall will fund the next phase of the organization’s mission: expanding equine‑assisted therapy services for children, adults and military veterans with disabilities.
From Campus Expansion to Program Growth
Earlier this year ManeGait celebrated reaching its $13.2 million fundraising goal for The Beacon Project, a campus expansion that will double the organization’s capacity on its 24‑acre McKinney property. With the new Stephens Greth Foundation Stable, administration offices and therapy center now open, the nonprofit is shifting focus from construction to delivering more services.
According to the group, more than 500 individuals are currently on a waiting list for therapy sessions. The organization aims to double the number of programs offered within the next 18 to 24 months, moving families off the list and into the arena.
How the Funds Will Be Used
Proceeds from the gala will be allocated to several key areas:
- Hiring additional staff and expanding the volunteer base to support a larger rider population.
- Acquiring and caring for more horses, ensuring the program can meet growing demand.
- Providing equine‑assisted counseling for military veterans and first responders, a demographic the nonprofit has prioritized since its inception.
President and CEO Patricia Nelson said, “Now together, we have the opportunity to fill this space with even more life, breakthroughs and possibilities. Every dollar raised at the gala brings more riders off our waitlist and into the arena.”
Community Support and Partnerships
Since its founding in 2008 with just four riders and two horses, ManeGait has grown to serve 150 riders with a herd of 27 horses. The organization’s expansion has been bolstered by local businesses, most notably Tradition Homes, which pledged up to $1 million toward the campus project.
The gala’s celebration concluded with a performance by the Josh Abbott Band, underscoring the community’s enthusiasm for the nonprofit’s mission.
Looking Ahead
With the record‑breaking fundraiser now secured, ManeGait is positioned to accelerate its service rollout. The nonprofit invites McKinney residents to learn more about volunteer opportunities, program enrollment and ways to support the mission by visiting its website.
