As Los Angeles prepares to host World Cup matches, Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner is making adjustments to accommodate the influx of soccer fans. From June 11 to July 19, all passengers on the Pacific Surfliner will need reservations, a move prompted by expected increases in ridership.
Additional Services for Fans
To ensure fans can travel to and from matches conveniently, additional late-night trains will run from Los Angeles on June 12, 13, 15, and 25. These trains will serve routes heading south toward San Diego and north toward Santa Barbara, departing from Union Station. Furthermore, on July 18 and 19, the trains will make an extra stop at the Burbank-Downtown station, providing access to the final weekend of the Los Angeles World Cup 26 Fan Zone.
Fans can also connect from Los Angeles Union Station to Metro services, which will transport them to SoFi Stadium for the matches. The Los Angeles World Cup 26 Fan Zone at Union Station, scheduled for June 25-28, will offer live match screenings, watch parties, and other fan activities.
Discounts and Service Adjustments
In partnership with the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board, the Pacific Surfliner is offering a 20% discount on coach and business-class fares to and from Los Angeles through July 15. However, officials have noted that codeshare and Rail 2 Rail services will be suspended on select high-demand dates in June and July.
Jason Jewell, Managing Director of the LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency, emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “This is one of the most premier events Southern California has seen in a long time, and we want every fan — whether they’re coming from San Diego, Orange County, or the Central Coast — to have a great experience from the moment they step on the train.”
The Pacific Surfliner operates along a 351-mile route, connecting San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties, making it a vital transportation option for fans attending the World Cup matches.
