The River Bend Food Bank in Davenport, Iowa, has been bolstered by a generous donation of 40,000 pounds of food and cleaning supplies. This contribution is part of a larger initiative celebrating America’s 250th birthday, organized by America250.org in collaboration with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Community Support
On June 3, a fully-loaded semi-truck delivered the supplies to the food bank, marking a significant boost for the local community. Steven Perry, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, expressed his excitement about the donation, noting that much of the food was grown and produced by church members who volunteer their time and resources.
The Church plans to distribute a total of 250 truckloads of supplies to communities across all 50 states, with River Bend being one of two recipients in Iowa. The other recipient is located in Des Moines.
Impact on Local Families
Officials from River Bend Food Bank stated that the donation would provide approximately 33,000 meals to families across their service area, which spans 23 counties in eastern Iowa and western Illinois. This substantial contribution underscores the importance of community and faith-based initiatives in supporting families and individuals in need.
