In the early hours of Wednesday morning, San Francisco police responded to two separate incidents resulting in fatalities on city streets. The first incident occurred around 5:31 a.m. near Brannan and Seventh streets in the SoMa neighborhood, where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. Despite efforts by paramedics, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Second Incident in Excelsior
Approximately an hour later, at 6:23 a.m., another individual was found deceased near Geneva Avenue and Mission Street in the Excelsior district. The cause of death for this individual has not yet been determined, and it remains unclear if a vehicle was involved.
The SoMa incident marks the 11th traffic-related fatality in San Francisco this year, with pedestrians accounting for the majority of these tragic events. Jodie Medeiros, executive director of Walk San Francisco, expressed sorrow over the loss, highlighting the dangers pedestrians face in the city.
Authorities are continuing their investigations into both incidents and are urging anyone with information to contact the San Francisco Police Department at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411, starting the message with SFPD.
