As Boston prepares to bid farewell to Robert Kilduff Jr., the community reflects on the life of a dedicated firefighter and loving father. Kilduff, a third-generation firefighter, tragically lost his life after falling from the third floor of a burning building in Dorchester last weekend.
A Legacy of Service
Kilduff’s family gathered at the Columbus Avenue fire station, where he served for 24 years, to share memories of his selfless nature. His daughter, Hanna Jane Kilduff, described him as a hero in every aspect of his life. ‘He was always looking to help the people around him,’ she said, highlighting his commitment to service both on and off the job.
Jess Spruell, Kilduff’s longtime partner, recalled his generous spirit, noting that he was a ‘humble giver’ who sought happiness for others without seeking recognition. His son, Mason Kilduff, emphasized the awareness of the job’s dangers but took solace in the countless lives his father saved.
Family and Faith
Beyond his professional achievements, Kilduff cherished his role as a father. ‘He always said that his favorite job was being a dad,’ his daughter shared, underscoring the deep bond he had with his children.
A Marine Corps veteran, Kilduff followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, continuing a proud family tradition of service. His passing is a profound loss to both his family and the Boston Fire Department.
To honor his memory, a wake will be held in West Roxbury on Sunday, followed by a funeral Mass at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross on Monday.
