Shreveport, La. – A homegrown nonprofit is making a lasting impact on animal welfare across the nation. Paws 4 Life, founded by local resident Tanya Parker, has rescued and re‑homed over 13,000 abandoned and neglected dogs in the past ten years.
Mission rooted in community compassion
Founded on the belief that every creature deserves a safe, loving home, Paws 4 Life works with a network of partner shelters and adopters in dozens of states. The organization’s volunteers locate dogs in dire situations, provide emergency veterinary care, and arrange transport to shelters where families are ready to adopt.
Recent rescues highlight ongoing effort
Among the latest success stories are three puppies discovered near a dumpster on the outskirts of Shreveport. After a quick assessment and necessary medical treatment, the pups were placed on a transport schedule that will take them to foster homes in neighboring cities. Within weeks, each puppy is expected to be matched with a permanent family.
Local support fuels national reach
Rick Rowe, a longtime Shreveport resident, shared the story on this week’s “Hometown Hero” segment, emphasizing how community donations and volunteer hours keep the operation running. “People here understand the value of caring for God’s creation,” Rowe said. “When we come together, we can change the destiny of thousands of animals.”
How you can help
Paws 4 Life welcomes contributions of time, supplies, and funds. The nonprofit accepts donations of pet food, blankets, and cleaning supplies at its Shreveport office on East Texas Street. Monetary gifts can be made through the organization’s website, where donors receive updates on the animals they help save.
Looking ahead
With a goal to reach 15,000 rescues by 2030, Paws 4 Life plans to expand its transport fleet and strengthen partnerships with shelters in the Gulf Coast region. The organization also aims to launch an educational program for local schools, teaching children about responsible pet ownership and the importance of compassion toward all living beings.
