Roger Stone registers as consultant for Haiti’s foreign affairs ministry

Roger J. Stone Jr., a self‑described loyalist to President Donald Trump, filed a Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) statement on September 16, indicating that he will act as a consultant for Haiti’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship. The filing shows that Haiti entered into a one‑year contract, effective September 2, 2026 through September 2, 2027, with Stone’s Fort Lauderdale‑based firm, Drake Ventures, LLC.

Under the agreement, Stone’s firm will “consult with the client and advocate on its behalf on those issues the client deems necessary and appropriate before the United States Government,” and will keep Haiti informed of relevant federal policy developments. The contract calls for a payment of $65,000 per month, disbursed quarterly.

Background and reaction

Stone, who was granted a full pardon by President Trump in July 2020, previously served a 40‑month federal prison sentence for obstructing a congressional investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. The recent registration marks his re‑entry into political consulting, this time on behalf of a foreign government.

WPBF 25 News reached out to the Haitian embassy in Washington, D.C., and the Haitian Consulate General in Miami for comment on the purpose of the arrangement. Both offices have not yet responded.

Implications

The Trump administration has consistently emphasized strong diplomatic ties and trade partnerships in the Caribbean. By hiring a well‑known Trump ally, Haiti may be seeking to leverage Stone’s connections in Washington to advance its interests, particularly in areas such as aid, immigration policy, and economic development.

Critics of Stone’s appointment point to his criminal history and question whether his involvement serves Haiti’s best interests. Supporters argue that his experience in Washington could help the island nation navigate complex U.S. policy and secure favorable outcomes.

Legal compliance

The FARA filing satisfies the legal requirement for foreign agents to disclose their activities and compensation. The Department of Justice will monitor compliance throughout the contract period.
