Fort Wayne Parks rolls out free family events and fitness classes this September

Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation is inviting residents to enjoy a packed schedule of free, family‑friendly events this fall. The programming, designed to bring neighbors together and promote active, healthy living, spans music, movies, fitness, and educational activities.

Live music and outdoor movies at Reservoir Park

On Friday, September 18, the park will host a “Party at Reservoir Park” from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir Park. Attendees can enjoy a live performance by the Ta’Korei Moore Band, play games, browse youth vendor booths, and sample food trucks. After the concert, an outdoor showing of the PG‑13 film Captain America: Brave New World will begin at sunset.

World Rivers Day celebration at Promenade Park

Saturday, September 26, Promenade Park will celebrate World Rivers Day from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The free event features hands‑on activities that highlight Fort Wayne’s three rivers, led by local environmental and conservation groups. Families can join a “Wild Goose Chase” to follow clues and locate the mascot Lucy Gold‑Goosey. The evening will close with an outdoor screening of the PG‑13 movie Jungle Cruise on the Auer Lawn, also at sunset. No registration is required.

Free Zumba‑in‑the‑Park classes

Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne, will offer two free Zumba‑in‑the‑Park classes on September 21 and September 28. Classes run from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Park Foundation Pavilion, 202 West Superior Street, and are open to participants of all experience levels.

Active Aging Week for adults 50+

Registration opens on October 5 for Active Aging Week, a five‑day program (October 5‑9) aimed at adults ages 50 and older. The week offers up to 15 complimentary activities, including cornhole, golf, billiards, disc golf, table tennis, shuffleboard, bocce, and Wii bowling. Interested participants can register by calling the Fort Wayne Community Center at 260‑427‑6460 or by visiting the center at 233 West Main Street.

Additional upcoming attractions

  • Sweet Breeze canal boat tours on September 26 and 27.
  • Weekly Riverfront Social Run Club meet‑ups.
  • Exhibitions at the Foellinger‑Freimann Botanical Conservatory, featuring “Pueblo Garden: Styles of the Southwest” and Jeremy Stroup’s “Touching Grass” through November 15.

These events underscore Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation’s commitment to providing accessible, wholesome recreation that strengthens community bonds and encourages active lifestyles for families, seniors, and individuals alike.
