Sheridan, WY – American Legion Post 7 announced it is suspending its sponsorship of Sheridan American Legion Baseball, Inc., effective September 11, 2026. The decision follows months of unresolved compliance issues with the National American Legion Baseball program rules.
Compliance concerns drive the suspension
Since December 2025, Post 7 has been in direct communication with the Board of Directors of Sheridan American Legion Baseball, Inc., urging the organization to bring its operations into full compliance with the national standards that govern all American Legion baseball programs. Despite repeated outreach and ample opportunity to correct the identified deficiencies, the Board has declined to make the necessary changes.
Post 7’s commitment to youth baseball remains strong
“Post 7 remains committed to the continued success of Sheridan youth baseball and to protecting the hard work and dedication of its athletes,” said Jennifer A. Warriner, Commander of American Legion Post 7. “We respectfully ask the baseball board to honor the program‑sponsored requirements of The American Legion and take the necessary steps to come into compliance, as required of all organizations affiliated with The American Legion.”
The suspension grants the Board a 30‑day period, from September 11 to October 11, 2026, to address the compliance shortfalls. If the Board fails to meet the requirements by the end of that window, Post 7 will terminate its sponsorship entirely.
No disruption to off‑season training
Importantly, the suspension does not impede coaches from conducting fall baseball workouts or preparing for the upcoming 2027 season. Post 7 emphasized that players, coaches, and families will experience no disruption to off‑season activities during this process.
Should the Board not satisfy the requirements by the October deadline, Post 7 has indicated it will cooperate with the formation of a new Sheridan American Legion baseball organization and will sponsor that program, ensuring the community retains an American Legion‑sponsored team for the 2027 Wyoming American Legion Baseball season.
Why compliance matters
The National American Legion Baseball program sets clear standards to protect the integrity of youth sports, promote fair play, and ensure that all participants receive a safe, well‑run experience. Post 7’s decisive action underscores its dedication to upholding those standards and safeguarding the interests of the young athletes and their families.
Local stakeholders are encouraged to stay informed about the Board’s response and to support any efforts that align with the American Legion’s mission of fostering character, citizenship, and sportsmanship among youth.
