Bowmanville, Chicago – The third annual Block Club Block Party returns on Oct. 3 from noon to 9 p.m. at Half Acre Beer Co., 2050 W. Balmoral Ave. The free, family‑friendly event promises food, beer, live music, dancing and a dedicated kids zone packed with activities.
Kids Zone Highlights
The kids zone will feature a bounce house, character meet‑and‑greets and hands‑on art projects. South Side nonprofit Englewood Arts Collective will run art pop‑ups, including a “clay play” table and a ceramic‑magnet making station. Founding member and artist JoVonna Jackson says the station offers a relaxed, low‑barrier environment for participants to explore ceramics.
Artist Jerrold Anderson, also known as JustFlo and a founding member of the collective, will be live‑painting at the event. He describes Englewood Arts Collective as a family of artists whose mission is to uplift communities through art. “What they take from it is almost endless, boundless,” Anderson said. “It’s a delight to see them light up using art or using the colors and putting creative ideas together.”
Anderson encourages families of all ages to attend, noting that the experience can open “a Pandora’s box of infinite opportunities for growth and community.”
Costumed Characters and Magic
League of Enchantment Chicago, a nonprofit that brings hope to children through costuming, will debut at the Block Club Block Party. Regional Director Grant Paplauskas explained that the group’s goal is for kids to feel seen and appreciated when they meet costumed characters, often superheroes and princesses who also visit hospital rooms.
While Paplauskas could not confirm which characters will appear, he expressed confidence that the encounter will be a positive experience for children and families.
Live Entertainment and Activities
Throughout the day, the party will feature a variety of performances. The Wiggleworms, the early‑childhood music and movement program from the Old Town School of Folk Music, will perform at 12:30 p.m. The Cosmic Underground Theater will showcase magic and mind‑reading at 2 p.m., and the Jesse White Tumblers will take to the skies at 4:15 p.m.
Local DJs will spin music, Block Club Chicago podcast host Jon Hansen will record a live episode, and the evening will close with an hour of karaoke.
Food, Vendors and VIP Options
In addition to food and beer, local vendors will be on hand offering a range of snacks and drinks. While general admission is free, VIP tickets—including food and drink vouchers and Block Club swag—are available for $80‑$140.
