Six injured, including two children, after three‑vehicle crash in Freedom, WI

Freedom, Wis. – A serious traffic collision on Saturday evening left six residents injured, including two young children, after a pickup truck failed to stop at the intersection of County Highways S and C.

What happened

According to the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office, the pickup truck entered the intersection against a stop sign at approximately 6:30 p.m. and struck an SUV traveling on Highway C. The impact sent the pickup careening into a nearby house, while the SUV collided with a third vehicle that was entering the intersection from the opposite direction.

Injuries reported

The driver of the SUV, a 39‑year‑old man from Larsen, was airlifted to ThedaCare Medical Center in Neenah with critical injuries. A 34‑year‑old woman from Larsen who was riding with him sustained serious injuries. Two children, ages one and three, escaped with minor injuries and were treated at the scene before being released.

The pickup truck’s driver, a 60‑year‑old man from Center, and his 64‑year‑old female passenger were both seriously injured and taken to local hospitals for treatment. The driver of the third vehicle, a 36‑year‑old man from Appleton, was evaluated at the crash site and released after receiving medical attention.

Response and investigation

First‑responders from the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office, local fire departments, and emergency medical services arrived quickly to secure the scene, provide medical care, and protect the nearby residence from further damage. The crash remains under active investigation, with officials reviewing traffic camera footage and witness statements to determine the exact cause and any potential traffic‑law violations.

Community impact

Residents of Freedom expressed concern over the safety of the intersection, which has seen increased traffic volume in recent years. Local officials have indicated they will review the stop‑sign placement and consider additional safety measures, such as improved signage or traffic‑calming devices, to prevent future incidents.

Mayor John Miller of Freedom said, “Our thoughts are with the families affected by this tragic accident. We will work closely with the sheriff’s office and state transportation officials to ensure our roads are as safe as possible for all residents.”

What’s next

Authorities will continue to investigate the crash, and a full report is expected within the coming weeks. In the meantime, drivers are urged to exercise caution at all intersections, obey traffic signals, and remain vigilant for pedestrians and other vehicles.
