Two Injured When Pickup Hits Power Pole and Building on Hwy 61 in Lake City

Lake City, MN – On Monday afternoon, just before 5:30 p.m., a pickup traveling north on Highway 61 left the roadway, collided with a power pole and then slammed into a nearby building at the 7240 Hwy 61 address. The crash injured the vehicle’s two occupants, a young man and a young woman, who were promptly taken to Lake City Hospital for treatment.

Who was involved

The State Patrol identified the driver as 28‑year‑old Seth Ryan Meyers of La Crescent. Riding with him was 24‑year‑old Makenna Jean Myers. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, and neither alcohol was suspected as a factor according to the official crash report.

Response by local first responders

Lake City Police, the Lake City Fire Department, Lake City EMS, and the Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene. First‑responders secured the area, assessed the structural damage to the building, and ensured that the power pole was safely de‑energized before allowing traffic to resume.

Injuries and medical care

Both Meyers and Myers suffered injuries that were classified as non‑life‑threatening. They were transported to the local hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Hospital officials reported that the injuries were expected to heal without lasting complications.

Investigation and safety reminders

The Minnesota State Patrol is conducting a standard investigation into the cause of the vehicle leaving the roadway. While alcohol was not a factor, officials reminded drivers to stay alert, especially on rural highways where weather, wildlife, or road conditions can change quickly. Seat‑belt use, which was observed in this incident, remains a critical safety measure that can reduce the severity of injuries.

Impact on the community

Lake City residents expressed concern over the safety of the stretch of Highway 61 that runs through town. Local officials have indicated they will review the roadway’s signage and lighting to help prevent similar incidents. The building that was struck sustained minor structural damage, and repairs are expected to begin within the next few days.

Authorities encourage anyone who witnessed the crash or who has information about the incident to contact the Lake City Police Department.
