Estancia officials update residents on water emergency and well repairs

Estancia, Texas – The town’s water emergency, declared in June, remains a top priority for local officials. After weeks of water hauling and intermittent service, the municipality is moving forward with critical infrastructure repairs and is inviting residents to a special meeting Thursday for the latest updates.

Current status of the emergency

Mayor Roy Hubbard told reporters that daily water hauling has become a “regular sight” across Estancia, but the town is managing the situation while it works through a series of setbacks. “We’ve been doing fairly well. The pressure has been, except for this little hiccup on Friday of last week, but we’re getting back on track and drillers are on the ground this week,” Hubbard said.

Well project and emergency procurement

The town is still navigating the required steps for a new well project that will provide a long‑term solution to the water shortage. Officials noted that emergency procurement rules may allow them to fast‑track certain contracts, helping to shorten the timeline for critical equipment and services.

Pump replacement and drilling activity

Two weeks ago a key pump failed, further limiting water pressure for many households. Crews are scheduled to replace the broken pump within the next few days. In addition, drilling teams have arrived on site and are preparing to begin the next phase of well construction, pending final approvals.

Special community meeting

To keep residents informed, Estancia will hold a special meeting this Thursday at the town hall. The agenda includes a detailed briefing on current water levels, distribution plans, and the status of well repairs. Town officials will also field questions from the public and outline any upcoming steps that may affect daily life.

What residents can expect

While the emergency continues, the town asks residents to conserve water where possible and to stay tuned for further announcements. The special meeting will provide a forum for transparent communication, ensuring that families have the information they need to plan for any short‑term disruptions.

Looking ahead

Estancia’s leadership remains confident that the combined efforts of emergency procurement, pump replacement, and well drilling will restore reliable water service in the coming weeks. The town’s proactive approach reflects a commitment to safeguarding essential resources for its families and preserving the community’s stability.
