MENASHA, WI — The Greater Fox Cities Habitat for Humanity announced a new disaster‑recovery program designed to get 100 tornado‑impacted families back into safe, livable homes before the holiday season.
“Tornado Rock the Block 100” targets critical repairs
The nonprofit’s effort, called Tornado Rock the Block 100, will focus on replacing roofs, windows, doors and other exterior components that were damaged or destroyed in the recent tornado outbreak that swept through Menasha, Neenah, Fox Crossing and surrounding communities. Habitat officials said the work is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 15, giving families a chance to celebrate Christmas in a restored home.
Local businesses contribute $3 million
A coalition of Fox Valley businesses has pledged $3 million to fund the project. The donations will cover materials, labor and the administrative costs of coordinating volunteers and contractors. Habitat for Humanity plans to release additional details about the application process and program logistics at a news conference next week.
How families can apply
Eligible homeowners must have been directly affected by the tornadoes and demonstrate a need for critical repairs. Habitat will prioritize families who lack the financial resources to undertake the work on their own. The upcoming news conference will outline the specific criteria, required documentation and timeline for submitting applications.
Community impact and volunteer opportunities
Beyond the immediate repairs, the initiative is expected to stimulate the local economy by creating short‑term construction jobs and purchasing building materials from regional suppliers. Volunteers from churches, civic groups and local schools are being invited to assist with demolition, cleanup and basic carpentry under the supervision of experienced Habitat crews.
“Our mission is to bring families back home quickly and safely, and this project embodies the spirit of neighborly love that defines the Fox Cities,” said a Habitat spokesperson. “We are grateful for the generous support of our business partners and look forward to working hand‑in‑hand with the community to rebuild stronger homes and stronger families.”
Looking ahead
The organization hopes the December deadline will serve as a rallying point for donors, volunteers and local officials alike. By delivering tangible results before the holiday season, Habitat for Humanity aims to demonstrate how faith‑based, family‑centered action can restore stability and hope after a natural disaster.
