A high-profile Democrat is standing by Maine Senate candidate Troy Jackson despite reports that he fathered children with his cousin. Former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile downplayed the claims, saying she doesn’t want to comment on “salacious gossip”.
Scandal-Plagued Senate Race
The Maine Senate race has been marred by controversy, with former far-left candidate Graham Platner dropping out earlier this summer after a series of controversies, including a rape allegation. Jackson, who became the Democrat nominee, is now facing his own set of problems, including a 1988 police report accusing him of assault.
Brazile, a veteran Democrat, told Fox News Digital that she doesn’t know anything about Jackson’s personal life and wishes him the best of luck. Jackson’s campaign has accused his opponent, Sen. Susan Collins, of being behind the personal attacks, calling them “shameful and desperate”.
Jackson is running against Collins, who has held her Senate seat since 1997. The Democrat candidate has never directly denied the claims that his longtime partner, Lana Pelletier, is his cousin. Pelletier has defended Jackson, saying the statements attributed to her in the 1988 police report are “not accurate”.
