North Texas mother of three killed in wrong-way Central Expressway crash

In Dallas, a late-night collision on Central Expressway left Ruby Gonzalez dead and her husband, Kevin Gonzalez, critically injured after a wrong-way driver struck their SUV near Royal Lane. The other driver, 23-year-old Christopher Ourfalian, was also pronounced dead at the scene, and Dallas police are investigating how he ended up traveling north in the southbound lanes. Friends and family are reeling over the loss of a mother of three, including a three-month-old, while the community rallies to support Kevin and the children. Details from the crash, the people involved, and the unfolding investigation are still coming in from Dallas PD and close acquaintances.

Late Monday into early Tuesday, Ruby picked up her husband after a late shift and they headed south on I-75 Central Expressway near Royal Lane. Around 1:30 a.m., investigators say a sedan driven the wrong way struck the couple’s Mercedes SUV head-on. The impact was severe and sent both occupants to the hospital in critical condition.

At the hospital, Ruby Gonzalez was later pronounced dead, while Kevin Gonzalez was admitted to the ICU and is reportedly making slow progress toward recovery. Medical updates remain limited as the family processes the shock and the community seeks ways to help. There is an active GoFundMe set up for the grieving family to assist with immediate needs and expenses.

The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead on scene and later identified as 23-year-old Christopher Ourfalian. Authorities have not released a conclusive reason for why he was driving north in the southbound lanes, and toxicology and other usual investigatory steps are expected to follow. Dallas PD is leading the investigation and has asked anyone with dashcam or nearby video to come forward.

Those who knew Ruby describe a woman who stitched her social circle together and who left a tangible emptiness when she was taken. Ruby and Kevin were high school sweethearts who married in Spain and built a life centered on family and their three children. Friends say she had a warmth and practical strength that anchored everyday life for people around her.

“You cannot replace somebody like that in this world,” said Ruby’s friend Matt Epstein. “There will not be another Ruby.” The sentiment echoed across messages and posts as friends tried to put into words the hole her loss leaves in their routines and celebrations.

“It’s impossible to recreate what she did for her children, and thinking about her newborn,” said Ruby’s friend Amanda Martinez. “He will never get to know his mother.” That blunt ache repeated in conversations, a reminder of how sudden loss fractures the practical and emotional future of a young family.

“She is going to be very dearly missed,” Epstein said. “Her body may no longer be with us, but her spirit lives on.” Friends describe Ruby’s laugh, her generosity, and the small rituals that made her a constant in other people’s lives, painting a picture of someone whose presence was both ordinary and deeply felt.

“It’s very sad to see that we won’t be doing life together,” Martinez said. “She just departed us one day.” Those lines capture how quickly plans and patterns can be erased, leaving a stunned community balancing grief with the need to organize support for the children and Kevin.

“Ruby had a very special way to bring joy to everybody’s heart,” said Epstein. In the days after the crash friends and neighbors have been coordinating meals, childcare, and donations, while also pressing for answers about the circumstances that led to the wrong-way collision on a major Dallas thoroughfare.

Dallas PD continues to work through the evidence and interviews, trying to reconstruct the moments before the crash and determine if impairment, vehicle trouble, or a wrong exit played a role. For now, the focus for many in Dallas is on helping Kevin and the children and on remembering Ruby through stories and gestures that keep her voice alive. As investigators piece together a timeline, the community has been left holding those small, fragile threads of memory and support.
