Idaho’s universities have started to phase out diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, even before the state legislature passed a law banning them. The University of Idaho and Boise State University have already closed several programs and cut jobs related to DEI.
University of Idaho
The University of Idaho closed its Office of Equity and Diversity, Office of Multicultural Affairs, Women’s Center, LGBTQA Office, and Black/African American Cultural Center, eliminating 16 jobs in the process. The university also eliminated an annual training requirement that reviewed its diversity statement.
Boise State University
Boise State University shut down four programs, including the Student Equity Center and the Gender Equity Center, and cut seven jobs. However, the university later created three new positions to staff its new Student Connections and Support Center.
Other Universities
Idaho State University closed its Diversity Resource Center and Janet C. Anderson Gender Resource Center, while Lewis-Clark State College and College of Southern Idaho reported no changes. The College of Western Idaho closed two programs tailored to Hispanic students and a third program serving Hispanic employees.
