A recent incident at a neighborhood pool in Royse City, Texas, has sparked calls for accountability and an internal police investigation. Civil rights activists and attorneys representing a local family are demanding action against the officer involved in the incident, which led to two arrests.

According to reports, the incident began when neighbors questioned whether the family had the right to use the pool. The situation escalated, and police responded to a reported disturbance. Cellphone video of the encounter shows an officer dragging a woman by her hair before she is pinned to the ground. The video also shows her daughter being handcuffed and pinned down.

Civil rights activist Dominque Alexander, founder of the Next Generation Action Network, said an official complaint has been filed against the officer. Alexander and the family’s attorneys are calling for additional action against the officer, including his immediate firing.

Royse City Police Chief Kirk Aldrige declined to comment following a City Council meeting but said he would allow the family and their attorneys to view all body camera and dash camera footage from that day.

Investigation and Response

The police department has launched an internal investigation into the incident, and the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave. The charges against the two individuals arrested during the incident have been dropped pending a thorough examination of all charges.

Civil rights attorney Sean Daredia said the steps taken by the police department do not go far enough. Daredia is calling for the officer to be fired immediately and for the body camera footage to be released to the public.
