Meet Hannah Gonzales: KSAT’s hometown reporter returns to San Antonio

Hannah Gonzales has returned to San Antonio to join KSAT as a reporter after time in Fresno, California and work in Sherman, Texas. Born and raised in the Alamo City, she brings hometown energy, a background in TV production from Providence Catholic School and the University of North Texas, and a tiny travel-ready companion named Frankie. This piece follows her path back to her community, the stories that shaped her and the local traditions she can’t wait to cover.

Hannah steps into KSAT with clear memories of the station from school field trips and a long-held goal to work alongside the reporters she admired. She says it’s an honor to be back reporting where she grew up and to use local journalism to spotlight change, celebrate victories and stand with neighbors in hard times. That hometown connection is exactly what drew her back after nearly eight years away.

Meet Hannah Gonzales, KSAT’s newest reporter, who is excited to return to her hometown of San Antonio and share the stories that matter most to the community.

Fiesta and the rodeo top her list of favorite local traditions, two events she grew up waiting for every year. Hannah even marched in the Flambeau Parade with her dance studio, Sarita’s, which is one of those small-town memories that sticks. Even after living elsewhere, she made a point of coming home to savor the food, the crowds and the family time.

Her interest in storytelling started in a broadcast class at Providence Catholic School where she learned TV production with Provet TV. That class let her try everything—writing scripts, editing footage and interviewing classmates—so she understood both sides of the camera early on. Those lessons helped shape her journalism path and gave her confidence to pursue reporting in college and beyond.

She carried that foundation to the University of North Texas, where hands-on newsroom work continued to sharpen her skills. College pushed her to write tighter, ask tougher questions and edit under deadline pressure—skills any newsroom leader values. By the time she left school, Hannah was ready for real-world reporting assignments.

Outside the news day, Hannah keeps things simple: Pilates classes, a good book and lots of time with her chihuahua, Frankie. They’re inseparable; Frankie gets carried along to most outings, even if it slows them down a bit. That kind of companionship makes long workdays easier and gives her a lens on the little joys in life.

Frankie’s favorite trips so far include Carmel-by-the-Sea, San Francisco and Yosemite National Park, spots that pair outdoor time with great scenery. They’ve racked up memories on coastal walks and in redwood quiet, and Hannah says those trips recharge her. Travel also sharpens a reporter’s curiosity, which she brings back to local beats.

One assignment that still lingers in her mind came early in her career when she covered severe weather in North Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. In April of 2024 an EF-4 tornado struck Marietta, Oklahoma, killing a semi-driver and destroying nearly 20 businesses and homes, including the local hospital. Reporting on that kind of devastation was tough, but Hannah says watching communities rebuild and support one another taught her a lot about resilience.

Her first post-college job was in Sherman, Texas, where she learned how to cover breaking news and the human side of disaster. That experience pushed her to tell stories with care and to focus on the people behind the headlines. It’s the kind of reporting that shapes newsroom habits and builds trust with viewers.

When it comes to dream trips, Hawaii tops Hannah’s list—she’s been to Oahu twice and hopes to make it to Maui soon. She’s a sushi fan and would happily eat poke bowls from Foodland every day if she could. If given the chance, she’d also like to wander through Europe and collect new stories and flavors from cities she hasn’t seen yet.

As Hannah settles into her role at KSAT, expect local features with personal touches and a reporter who remembers what it means to grow up here. Her roots in San Antonio and experience across the region give her a practical, empathetic approach to everyday coverage. Viewers will likely recognize that hometown perspective in the stories she chooses and the questions she asks.
