Peyton Siva, a Louisville legend and current assistant coach, is expected to leave UofL to reunite with his head coach Rick Pitino as part of St. John’s coaching staff according to multiple reports.

Background

Siva played under Pitino at Louisville from 2009 to 2013. The former Cardinals point guard was getting ready to enter his third season on staff with Pat Kelsey at Louisville. After serving as the program’s Director of Player Development/Basketball Alumni Relations, Siva was promoted to a full-time assistant for the 2025-26 season helping his alma mater reach two consecutive NCAA tournaments.

A fan favorite in the community, Siva scored 1,215 points in a Cardinals uniform and was a team captain in his final two seasons. He helped lead the program to back-to-back Final Four appearances and the 2013 national championship.

The Seattle native is one of only three players to be named the Most Outstanding Player of the Big East Tournament twice. He was also the Big East Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2012-13.

The opening at St. John’s comes after assistant coach Greg Youncofski left for Xavier in the offseason. Associate head coach Steve Masiello (a former Louisville assistant under Pitino) is staying on staff as the program’s new general manager.

Siva is the third coach to leave UofL this season.
