It has been a banner stretch for Sheridan-area student-athletes, with two standout performances putting local teams in the statewide spotlight this week.
The Tongue River girls basketball team has done it again. The Eagles repeated as Wyoming 2A State Champions, claiming back-to-back titles and cementing their place as one of the top programs in the state. Earning a state championship once is a remarkable achievement — doing it two years in a row speaks to the dedication, teamwork, and coaching that define this program. The Tongue River community has plenty of reason to celebrate.
Meanwhile, the Sheridan High School boys track and field team turned in an impressive showing at the 2026 Wyoming 4A Indoor Track and Field State Meet, finishing in 2nd place. The runner-up finish is a strong result in a competitive 4A field and reflects the hard work put in by Sheridan’s athletes and coaches throughout the season. The Sheridan girls team also competed at the meet, finishing 6th.
Adding to the celebratory mood, three Sheridan coaches were recently recognized by the Wyoming Coaches Association for the Fall 2023 season, a reminder that the excellence on display at the state level is backed by outstanding leadership and mentorship at the local level.
These results are a source of pride for the entire Sheridan area, highlighting the talent and spirit that make local athletics something worth cheering about. Congratulations to all the athletes, coaches, and families who made these achievements possible.
