A 19-year-old U.S. citizen, Alan Marquez, was taken to the New Century Detention Center in Olathe, Kansas, after an encounter with an ICE agent, Jack Ravencamp, on Saturday. Marquez was detained for hours and released without charge.
Details of the Encounter
According to Marquez, he was driving to his auto shop when he noticed several Olathe police cars and ICE agents at an apartment complex near Dennis Avenue and Harrison Street. Marquez pulled into the complex’s parking lot, and an ICE agent, later identified as Ravencamp, approached his truck. Marquez said Ravencamp pepper-sprayed his truck and backed into it, damaging the mirror and driver’s side door.
Marquez and his cousin were taken to the New Century Detention Center in separate cars and changed into prison uniforms. They were released hours later after a U.S. Department of Homeland Security official determined there was not enough evidence to charge them.
Lawsuit in Maine
Ravencamp is currently facing a federal civil rights lawsuit in Maine, filed by Juan Sebastián Carvajal-Muñoz, a Colombian civil engineer working in Maine on a valid H-1B visa. The lawsuit alleges that Ravencamp and other ICE agents unlawfully detained and used excessive force against Carvajal-Muñoz during an immigration operation in January.
