The Clark County Charter Review Commission, an elected body of 15 members, passed an amendment to establish a five-member Ethics Commission. The amendment, sponsored by Kim Hamlick of District 2, passed 13-1 with one recusal. If passed by the voters, this would increase the number of Ethics Commission members from three to five.
Background
The Ethics Commission is responsible for hearing, investigating, and ruling on complaints of violations of the Code of Ethics in Clark County. The Code of Ethics applies to elected officials, appointed committee or advisory board members, and county employees.
The Commission’s decision may not reach voters if the Clark County Council acts first. The Council is expected to discuss the matter later this month and could add two members to the Ethics Commission, making the amendment unnecessary.
