Frisco, a city with a significant Asian population, will host two major Indian cultural events in August. The Dallas Telugu Alai Balai Sangam (DTABS) will organize a Bonalu celebration on Sunday, August 2, at Frisco Flyers, 6300 Flyers Way. The event is free and open to the public.
Bonalu Festival
Bonalu is an annual Hindu festival dedicated to Goddess Mahakali and is traditionally celebrated in the Indian state of Telangana. The festival involves the preparation of rice with milk and jaggery in earthen or brass pots, which are then carried to temples as offerings.
Some Bonalu observances have included animal-sacrifice practices, although these vary by location. However, the Telangana Animals and Birds Sacrifices Prohibition Act prohibits sacrifices at public places of worship and in surrounding areas.
India Independence Day Celebration
The India Association of North Texas (IANT) will host an eight-hour India Independence Day gathering, called Anand Bazaar, on Saturday, August 15, at Comerica Center, 2601 Avenue of the Stars. The event will feature an Independence Day parade, floats representing Indian states, food vendors, classical and Bollywood performances, and a drone show.
The event is expected to attract thousands of families from across the Dallas-Fort Worth area and is described as the largest Indian Independence Day celebration in North Texas. The sponsor list includes several local businesses and institutions, reflecting the growing commercial and institutional footprint of the Indian community in the region.
Frisco’s demographic report estimates that the city’s population is approximately 245,470, with 33.6% of residents identifying as Asian. The city has also seen significant growth in H-1B petition approvals, with 6,883 approved petitions associated with Frisco employers between 2020 and 2025.
