Dallas County prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, 37, accused of beheading a coworker at a Dallas motel last year.
Case Details
Cobos-Martinez was arrested in September 2025 in the beheading death of Chandra Nagamallaiah. Both the victim and Cobos-Martinez were employees at a motel off of Samuel Blvd, where the attack happened.
According to the arrest affidavit, Cobos-Martinez became angry when the victim spoke to him through a translator rather than directly. Surveillance video showed Cobos-Martinez leaving the motel room, retrieving a machete, and repeatedly stabbing and striking the victim.
Cobos-Martinez has a history of escalating violence, with charges in Florida, California, and Texas, including vehicle theft, attempted carjacking, and assault-related cases.
Nagamallaiah was described as a selfless and kind person who always had a kind word and a smile, and never hesitated to help others in need.
