Isaac and Andrew Reyes, brothers and tree trimmers, were finishing a job in Ponca City, Oklahoma, when a cable snapped, sending them plummeting 45 feet to the ground. The incident occurred on Sunday and has left both men with serious injuries.
Injuries and Recovery
Isaac sustained a broken femur, torn ligaments, and severely sprained ankles, while Andrew has a fractured jaw and a broken nose. Despite the severity of their injuries, both men are grateful that the outcome was not worse.
"We heard a snap," Isaac said. "We both knew it was going to happen. He blew right through his bucket on the ground, and my legs absorbed all the force. And yeah, it’s pretty much the last thing we remember."
Community Support
The community is rallying behind the Reyes brothers, with Enrique’s Mexican Restaurant hosting a fundraiser on July 23 to support their recovery. The restaurant will give 15% of its sales back to the Reyes family. Friends and family have also set up a GoFundMe to help with expenses.
"Being a small business together in Ponca City, you really depend on your community to help you," said Selah Ashlock, co-owner of Enrique’s. "I know Isaac personally, and he has helped my family out a lot and my husband. So, we are just trying to give back any way we can to help."
Both Isaac and Andrew are thankful for the support they have received and are looking forward to their recovery. "It’s definitely a blessing. Shocking, for sure. Blessing. A lot of good people in the city," Andrew said. "Just thankful it happened the way it happened. It could have been a lot worse. So, we’re lucky. God was watching us that day, no doubt."
