Rev. Paul Fleck, Executive Director of Immigration Law & Justice New York, is taking a sabbatical to walk the Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage believed to be the ancient ‘Way of St. James’.
A Journey of Faith
The Camino is a route that the Apostle James took to spread the Gospel among the people of the Iberian Peninsula. Every year, thousands of ‘peregrinos’ take this pilgrimage, which is a time of intense physical and spiritual growth.
Rev. Fleck, an ordained Elder in The New York Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church, is looking forward to unplugging from his daily work and praying with his feet. He will be fasting from his cell phone, computer, and email, and meditating on his next step along the journey.
Despite some anxiety about the trip, Rev. Fleck’s heart is fully embracing the prospect of the experience. He believes that faith is about embracing the unknown with abandon and making that leap of faith over the chasm of doubt.
