Kathryn Ruemmler, the former top lawyer at Goldman Sachs and White House counsel to President Barack Obama, testified before the House Oversight Committee about her relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
Testimony Reveals Extensive Relationship
Ruemmler stated that it was a mistake to deal with Epstein, but she never witnessed any criminal activities. She acknowledged that Epstein used her and other respectable people to legitimize his standing.
The House Oversight Committee is investigating the network of powerful people connected to Epstein, with over a dozen high-profile witnesses testifying, including Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and former President Bill Clinton.
Ruemmler served as White House counsel under Obama from 2011 to 2014 and was briefly considered for attorney general. She has been employed by Goldman Sachs for the past six years but announced her decision to step down in February amid backlash over her correspondence with Epstein.
Concerns Over Ruemmler’s Communications
House Oversight Chair James Comer expressed concern over Ruemmler’s communications with Epstein, particularly her attempts to rehabilitate his image after his conviction.
The committee has also expressed interest in questioning acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, whose nomination to permanently lead the Justice Department is pending before the Senate.
