Volusia County leaders are set to consider a proposal to create a public online database of individuals convicted of repeat domestic violence offenses. The proposed database, which would list people convicted of two or more domestic violence offenses in Volusia County, aims to increase transparency and help residents make informed decisions.
Proposal Details
Council member Matt Reinhart, who is sponsoring the proposal, stated that the goal is to provide residents with another resource to make informed, safety-conscious decisions while helping prevent repeat domestic violence offenses. The database would not include any information about victims, instead focusing on identifying individuals convicted of multiple domestic violence offenses, similar to a registry in Tennessee.
Reinhart believes the database should include individuals after one conviction and plans to bring up that change during the council meeting. If approved, county staff would move forward with creating the public database.
