Mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus have been found in Louisville’s Wyandotte/Oakdale neighborhood, near Churchill Downs. The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness reported the discovery on Tuesday.
Precautions and Prevention
Mosquito fogging will take place through Friday to prevent infection. Fogging will occur in the boundaries of Central Avenue, Watterson Expressway, Southern Parkway, and Lester Avenue. Officials are asking people to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites, including using insect repellant and wearing long sleeves and pants.
Most people who get infected with West Nile show no symptoms. Some have mild symptoms, and according to officials, less than 1% have serious illness. No human cases of West Nile have been confirmed in Jefferson County this year.
