A recent survey found that 28% of Americans believe they could score a World Cup penalty kick against a professional goalkeeper.
Confidence in Converting Pressure Kicks
Confidence in converting the pressure kick rises with the younger generation, with 43% of Gen Z feeling they could beat a World Cup goalie, compared to 37% of millennials, 26% of Gen X, and 12% of baby boomers.
The survey also found that nearly half of working soccer fans said they would skip work to watch games, with 14% saying the World Cup takes total priority and they have watched several games on work time throughout the tournament.
The research found that early interest in the tournament was mixed, with 52% of the 2,000 polled being uninterested in catching any of the games. However, a third planned to catch games here and there or just the matches where the United States is playing.
