St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, is introducing four new majors this fall, including Applied Artificial Intelligence, Business Analytics, Data Science, and Nutrition. The college has recently faced financial challenges, including an $8 million operating loss in Fiscal Year 2022, and has made cuts to staff and programs. However, Dean of Arts and Sciences Jamie Lynch believes the new programs will help the college better prepare students for the careers of tomorrow, with a focus on technology.
New Programs to Meet Student and Workforce Needs
Lynch stated that the new programs will help meet student and workforce needs, and that the college is going through a portfolio refresh to offer the highest quality educational product. Associate Professor of Mathematics Jonathan Dunbar was involved in creating the data science program and emphasized the importance of teaching students to use data in appropriate and ethical ways.
The college hopes that the new offerings will attract more students and help better prepare the college for the future. Last school year, St. Norbert had nearly 1,500 students enrolled, and the college expects to see more freshmen this fall.
