Minden city leaders are considering two different methods to provide raises for municipal employees following a budget workshop held Monday.
Plan C Proposal
During the session, Mayor Nick Cox presented Plan C, a proposal also referred to as the ‘four-one-one’ plan. The strategy distinguishes pay increases based on department roles. Under the proposal, police and fire department employees would receive a $1 per hour raise, while all other city employees would receive a 4% pay increase.
The city is currently working through its eighth draft of the budget. Cox emphasized the effort put into the revisions to ensure the plan is financially sustainable. ‘As you can see, we’re on draft eight, that means we’ve revised this thing eight times already,’ Cox said. ‘It doesn’t come to you as one that we don’t feel like. … Melania and I met as recently as 30 minutes before the meeting earlier, and we feel like it’s one the city can manage.’
In addition to personnel costs, the current budget draft allocates $1.5 million for street repairs. City officials are also looking to designate $40,000 for human resources assistance.
