A Kaufman County sheriff’s deputy and a Forney police officer escaped serious injury early Sunday after a passing vehicle slammed into the officer’s patrol car while they were working a call on a freeway.
Body camera video shared by the sheriff’s office showed the officer and deputy standing on the side of the road at about 3:17 a.m., talking with a man and a woman. As the officer turned to walk back toward his police cruiser, a car crashed into the stopped police vehicle, sending debris flying and missing the group by only a few feet.
The sheriff’s office did not share any details about the call or confirm any serious injuries after the collision. County officials said the crash served as a stark reminder of the state’s Move Over or Slow Down law, which requires drivers to move over or slow down for stopped emergency vehicles.
