The annual Birthplace Route 66 Festival is back on Aug. 7-8 in downtown Springfield. This year marks the centennial celebration of the Mother Road, and with that comes an even bigger celebration.
Festival Details
The Birthplace of Route 66 Festival is still free to attend, as it remains one of the biggest regional events in the United States, bringing over 65,000 guests annually. The two-day festival will host over 600 classic cars and trucks, motocross jump performances, and more historic Route 66 experiences.
A full schedule for the festival is available online.
Car Shows and Motorcycle Village
The Birthplace of Route 66 festival began as a block-party car show in 2010. Since then, the car show has grown significantly. It is $40 to register your car or truck in the car show this year. The first 600 people to register their car in the show will receive a T-shirt.
Motorcycle Village is back this year with a charity bike show, a Route 66 Gypsy Poker run, the Globe of Death stunt show and a freestyle motocross jump show. It’s $30 to register your bike for the charity bike show.
Live Music and Entertainment
Live music on Aug. 7 will include The Grasshopper Unit, The Refugees, Members Only, and The Emerald City Band. Live music on Aug. 8 will include Southern Bandits, Molly Healey & Band, Dawson Hollow, Chronicle: A Creedence Clearwater Revival Tribute, and Sixwire with special guest Al Paris.
Kindig-It Design will have a show starting at noon from the Aaron Sachs stage in Motorcycle Village on both days of the festival. Dave Kindig and Kevin Schiele, stars from the show “Bitchin’ Rides,” will show off custom cars.
