Firefighters are making progress on several wildfires burning across the region, including the McCauley Springs and Alcalde fires. The Ferris Fire in southwest Colorado has burned over 51,000 acres and is 22% contained.
Local Firefighters Gain Ground
Crews have reached 88% containment at the McCauley Springs Fire, with most of the fire now mopped up. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Ferris Fire, caused by lightning, has prompted evacuations for everyone east of County Road 15 to the canyon rim.
A community meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 8, at 6 p.m. at the Dolores County Public Service Center in Dove Creek, Colorado. Additional fires are burning across the state, including the Sacaton Fire in southwest New Mexico, which is 11% contained after burning over 9,300 acres.
