U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Gilbert, says the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, also known as H.R. 1, has already had a significant impact at the federal level. The law features tax cuts that Biggs believes will mean a huge boost for Arizona’s economy.
Local Impact
Arizonans will see a nearly $1.5 billion tax reduction over the next four years due to Arizona’s conformity with the H.R. 1 tax cuts, said Biggs. The average Arizona family will save nearly $2,000 in federal and state taxes as a result of H.R. 1’s policies.
Biggs pointed to small businesses being able to take advantage of tax cuts, citing the elimination of taxes on tips and overtime pay. He also noted that he has heard from Arizonans who received large tax refunds after H.R. 1 became law.
Response from Democrats
Arizona Senate Minority Leader Priya Sundareshan, D-Tucson, criticized H.R. 1, saying it’s “bad policy” and “bad economics.” She argued that the law’s tax cuts will hurt working families and small businesses.
However, U.S. Rep. Abe Hamadeh, R-Surprise, disagreed, saying that H.R. 1 has benefited countless constituents, including service workers and small business owners. He noted that the law puts American workers and businesses first.
Chad Heinrich, the state’s director for the National Federation of Independent Business, also praised H.R. 1, saying that the law’s 20% small-business deduction will create 26,000 jobs annually in Arizona over the next decade and increase the state’s gross domestic product by $1.4 billion each year.
