Beachgoers heading to Myrtle Beach this Fourth of July weekend are getting an extra gift: wider, fuller shores. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wrapped up its beach renourishment project in Myrtle Beach right ahead of the holiday, restoring sand along the coastline just as summer crowds arrive in full force.
And the good news doesn’t stop at the waterline. According to WBTW, the Corps is now preparing to shift its renourishment work south to the Surfside Beach and Garden City areas, meaning more of the Grand Strand’s beloved shoreline is set to benefit from the project in the weeks ahead.
The timing couldn’t be better. Visitors were already pouring into the area for the long holiday weekend, with summer nights along the Grand Strand buzzing with energy. A freshly renourished beach gives families, swimmers, and sun-seekers even more room to spread out and enjoy one of South Carolina’s most treasured stretches of coast.
Adding to the region’s momentum, Breeze Airways has launched a new nonstop route connecting Myrtle Beach to Pittsburgh, making it easier than ever for travelers from western Pennsylvania to reach the Grand Strand. The new route is the latest sign that Myrtle Beach International Airport continues to grow as a convenient gateway to the coast.
Whether you’re a local heading down to the shore or a first-time visitor flying in on a brand-new route, this Fourth of July weekend, Myrtle Beach is looking — and feeling — its very best.
