A shooting early Thursday morning, July 2, in a parking garage on the east side of Mercy Hospital’s campus in Springfield resulted in the deaths of two people.
According to Springfield Police Department spokesperson Cris Swaters, officers responded to a report of shots fired at around 4:50 a.m. and found two individuals with gunshot wounds. One person died at the scene, while the other was transported to the hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
Swaters stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public, and an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
