Josh Brooks, a soccer enthusiast from La Mirada, has transformed his front yard into a World Cup bracket display. The display features over 30 flags, representing every team still alive in the tournament. After each knockout match, one flag comes down, and the display changes to reflect the updated bracket.
A Labor of Love
Brooks, a soccer coach with 35 years of experience, said he loves the World Cup and wanted to show his creativity. He has been working on the display, and many of his neighbors have come by to appreciate his effort. Brooks said the best part of the display is the interaction it brings with the community, with people waving and honking their horns in appreciation.
Brooks is confident about the United States’ chances in the tournament, predicting a 3-1 win. When the tournament ends, every flag will eventually come down, but Brooks is already thinking about the next World Cup, saying the display will be back up in 2030.
