A recent explosion in Dallas has left three people dead and five injured after a natural gas line was punctured. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released its preliminary report, stating that the gas line had not been identified and marked before the May 28 blast.
Investigation Ongoing
The NTSB report indicates that a drill rig used for soil sampling was operating near the apartment building before the explosion. The report also provides a timeline of the response, including the notification of the natural gas provider, Atmos Energy Corporation.
According to the report, the engineering company had called 811 to have lines marked, as required by law. However, the gas line in question had not been marked. Brigham McCown, a pipeline expert, noted that the preliminary report is only an initial step in the investigation.
Atmos Energy Corporation has stated that it is actively supporting the NTSB and all parties involved in their investigations to determine the cause of the incident.
