Former Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG) spoke with Reason’s Robby Soave to discuss her perspective on the economy, foreign policy, and her five years serving in the U.S. House of Representatives. During the interview, Greene addressed her voting record, her initial motivations for running for office, and her shifting view of Donald Trump’s platform.
Early Campaign and Time in Office
Greene began by addressing public perceptions regarding her legislative record, noting a close alignment with Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie. She described Massie as one of her “best allies and best friends” during her tenure, noting that their collaboration began prior to the 2024 presidential election.
Reflecting on her entry into politics, Greene stated that she did not have a background in traditional party establishment functions before winning her seat in 2020. She described her initial campaign as being rooted in opposition to both major political parties.
Shifting View of Donald Trump
Greene also detailed her early support for Donald Trump, comparing her initial mindset to that of a typical rally attendee. However, Greene stated that her expectations were ultimately not met, remarking, “And boy, was I wrong.”
Greene concluded the segment by stating that she spent her five years in Washington attempting to find ways to stop policies she opposed, but found the political structure to be a significant obstacle. “The two-party system is so brutal,” Greene said.
