An 82-year-old woman in Volusia County, Florida, survived a terrifying ordeal when a massive oak tree fell on her mobile home, trapping her inside until firefighters came to her rescue.
Rescue Efforts
Marta Garcia explained that while the front of her home looks relatively intact, the back is much worse. She had been asleep in her mobile home over the weekend when she began hearing the sound of branches cracking.
Garcia described the fear she felt as the noise grew louder, unaware that a massive oak tree, more than three feet in diameter, was falling toward her roof. Moments later, the ceiling above her head collapsed.
Volusia County Fire Rescue responded within minutes of receiving the call for help. Photos provided by firefighters show them working quickly to extract Garcia from the debris and transport her to a hospital.
Garcia expressed her gratitude to the firefighters who rescued her. ‘That I love ’em. And that I believe in God now more than before, because he got me here,’ she said.
