An Iowa farmer has built a full-size replica of Wimbledon’s grass tennis court on his property, attracting tennis players from across the United States. Mark Kuhn, who lives in Floyd County, started working on the project in 2016 and has since maintained the court with delicate care, including irrigation and daily mowing.
A Labor of Love
Kuhn’s passion for tennis began when he was a child, and he wanted to bring a piece of Wimbledon to his front yard. The court has become a popular destination for tennis enthusiasts, with players like Brett Joyce from Rochester, Minnesota, visiting to play on the cherished court.
Kuhn’s dedication to maintaining the court is impressive, with a process that takes about an hour of manicuring each morning. The court features the Union Jack Slazenger logos, making it a unique and authentic experience for players.
Kuhn’s love for tennis has also led him to volunteer as a court attendant at Wimbledon, where he will be working during the fortnight. After his return, he will open the All Iowa Lawn Tennis Club again, with reservations required for players to access the court.
