A Massachusetts State Police trooper has been relieved of duty after a video showed them striking another off-duty trooper during a physical altercation.
State police say the conduct depicted in the video is serious and inconsistent with the standards required of every member of the department, whether on duty or off duty.
The trooper was relieved of duty, pending a formal duty-status hearing, immediately after the department learned of the incident, state police said.
The department’s Office of Professional Integrity and Accountability is actively investigating the facts and circumstances of the incident, according to state police, who said “swift and appropriate action” will be taken based on the findings.
