A 4-year-old girl has died almost a week after she was pulled from a hotel pool in Kennebunk, Maine. The child, who had been in critical condition at Boston Children’s Hospital, was pronounced dead on Friday.
Incident Details
The Kennebunk Fire Department previously said crews were dispatched to the Hampton Inn on Independence Drive around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, for a child not breathing. Firefighters and EMS arrived on scene and found a 4-year-old girl who was in cardiac arrest after a near drowning incident in the hotel pool.
The fire department said at the time that immediate and extensive resuscitative efforts were provided on scene before the girl was taken by ambulance to MaineHealth Biddeford and then flown by medical helicopter to MaineHealth Portland. It’s unclear when she was transferred to Boston Children’s.
Kennebunk police are investigating this incident. The circumstances surrounding the incident have not been provided. A review is underway, according to the fire department, which had said additional information was not being released at the time out of respect for the family’s privacy.
Fire officials have issued reminders of pool and water safety tips for the summer, including properly fitted life jackets and constant supervision, including no phones or other distractions.
