Fifteen years after the tragic death of 18-year-old Dion Thomas, his family continues to search for answers. Thomas was shot and killed in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood on June 26, 2011.
A Life Celebrated
Recently, loved ones gathered at Grant Park to celebrate Thomas’ life. His father, Weldon Thomas, remembered his son as a remarkable young man who played every sport, was very smart, and had a great sense of humor.
Weldon Thomas recalls the day his son was killed, saying he heard the gunfire and was told his son had been shot. By the time he reached the scene, Dion had passed away.
A Cold Case Review
The Cincinnati police have announced a renewed cold case review of Thomas’ homicide. While no new information has surfaced, investigators are reviewing the case and seeking witness cooperation to help solve it.
For Weldon Thomas, finding justice would bring answers, but the gathering at Grant Park was more about celebrating his son’s life. Friends and family released balloons, shared food, and told stories about the teenager who brought laughter to those around him.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Cincinnati Police or Crimestoppers at 513-352-3040.
