Casper, Wyoming, will be the site of the state’s first Freedom Rock, a giant boulder that will be hand-painted to memorialize and thank veterans and local service members. The Freedom Rock is the brainchild of artist Ray ‘Bubba’ Sorenson, who began painting the first Freedom Rock in Menlo, Iowa, in 1999. Sorenson’s goal is to create a Freedom Rock in each of the 50 states.
What is a Freedom Rock?
A Freedom Rock is a large boulder that is hand-painted by Sorenson to honor veterans and local service members. The rocks are typically 7 feet tall and are designed to be a tribute to those who have served their country. Sorenson keeps the design of each rock local to the area where it will be placed, making each one unique.
The Casper Freedom Rock is scheduled to be completed in July 2027. To make this project a reality, the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Wyoming 36-1 is holding fundraising events, including a bike show and bike nights at Bull Horn Brewing in Casper. The group is also offering sponsorship packets for those who want to support the project.
